The brainchild of Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures in November of 2014, Big Hero 6 is an 3D animated superhero comedy/fantasy film. Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, the smash hit is inspired by the Marvel Comics classic of the same name. Voiceovers include Ryan Potter as Hiro Hamada, Scott Adsit as Baymax and James Cromwell as the protagonist Professor Robert Callaghan.

Literally the first of its kind for Disney, the animated film featured state of the art software technology specifically designed to produce the film’s animated visual effects. The film is the first animated release to feature any of the numerous characters of the Marvel Comics universe. The initial release grossed over $431 million in worldwide box office sales and should be available on Netflix in the near future. Critically acclaimed, Super Hero 6 received several independent nominations headlined by the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Set in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo, Big Hero 6 centers on the life of aspiring robotic genius Hiro Hamada (Potter). After a devastating lab explosion in which Hiro’s brother is killed, the child prodigy goes into seclusion until one day discovering and activating Baymax (Adsit). The two soon team up on an adventure to discover the secrets behind the attack in which Hiro’s brother was killed. As the film escalates, Baymax befriends Hiro and helps him deal with the grief he feels over the loss of his brother, helping to overcome Hiro’s anger.

Together with Baymax, the two soon learn Callaghan’s involvement with the explosion along with his motives. Choices and sacrifices must then be made among the friends in order to stop the villain at all costs. Rotten Tomatoes reports an 89% positive aggregate review based on 166 critical submissions. The site official release state’s, “Agreeably entertaining and brilliantly animated, Big Hero 6 is briskly-paced, action-packed, and often touching.”
