In anticipation of the release of Ant-Man, Disney has begun promoting the film by releasing a teaser trailer followed by a full-length trailer. The twelfth in a series of Marvel Universe films, Ant-Man is scheduled to premiere in theaters on the 17th of July, 2015. The dates the film will be released onto DVD and then to sites such as Netflix is currently unknown. In the original comic series, “Ant-Man” is a name used by several characters at different times. The premise is that there is a closely-guarded technology which allows its user to shrink to a miniscule size while gaining strength. Hank Pym is the original Ant-Man, and his suit and technology are later used by characters Scott Lang and Eric O’Grady.
The trailer focuses on the recruitment of Lang (who is played by Paul Rudd) to the role of Ant-Man, which begins by showing Lang with his hands-up being arrested. Offering him a second chance, Pym (Michael Douglas) uses Lang’s relationship with his daughter to help convince him, stating, “This is your chance to earn that look in your daughter’s eyes.”
The trailer then cuts to a series of clips showing Lang’s daughter, as well as other scenes from the movie, throughout which Pym continues to give his recruitment speech. As he finishes by telling Lang “I need you to be the Ant-Man”, the camera shows Lang’s face as he blandly responds with a simple, “Huh!” We then see a series of clips of the Ant-Man in action, as well as a few brief clips of Pym’s own daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Darren Cross (Corey Stoll), who is Pym’s former protege. This is followed by a bit of semi-comic relief at the end of the trailer as Scott asks, “is it too late to change the name?”
